PTC council to talk about stormwaterBy JOHN
MUNFORD
The City Council of Peachtree City will consider submitting a plan explaining how it will improve water quality in its stormwater discharge. The plan will be discussed at council's regular meeting Thursday night. If approved, the plan would be submitted to the Georgia Environmental Protection Division for approval. The plan encompasses six areas: Public education and outreach. Public involvement and participation. Illicit discharge detection and elimination. Construction site stormwater runoff control. Post-construction stormwater management. Pollution prevention/good housekeeping. The plan must be fully implemented by March 2008, but there will be milestones and deadlines listed for each facet of the plan, according to City Engineer Troy Besseche. Besseche and the city's stormwater consulting firm, Integrated Science and Engineering, have compiled the plan. While the costs at the outset likely will range from $50,000 to $75,000, the maintenance elements of the program will cost substantially more, Besseche said in a memo to council. Those costs should be better defined by next year, he added. The city's stormwater plans will also be discussed with council as a topic during the council's annual retreat, which is set to begin March 7.
