PTC police protect key sites from terrorism attempts By JOHN MUNFORD
Peachtree City police are implementing special surveillance details on several areas of the city to thwart a potential terrorist attack, according to Chief James Murray. There are several federal facilities in Peachtree City, Murray said, noting the department is also looking at certain companies that might become terrorist targets. Among the federal buildings in Peachtree City that could become terrorist targets are the Atlanta TRACON air traffic control facility and the home of the National Weather Service, Murray said. Murray attended a special two-week training course in Israel several years ago that covered dealing with terrorists. In Isreal, "they plan for several activities around terrorism. They don't panic," Murray said. Residents there were "used to it." But by growing fearful, Americans play into the hands of the terrorists, Murray said. "The fear is what the terrorists want," Murray said. Local residents should be aware of anything suspicious and call police to check it out if necessary. But Murray warned citizens from suspecting others based on the color of their skin. "Terrorists are not just from Afghanistan or Sudan," Murray said. "We have terrorist organizations in the United States who might cause an attack and try to blame it on somebody else. "... You don't want to infringe on someone's civil rights just because it looks like they don't belong."
