Mayors want more road information By JOHN
THOMPSON Last week's retreat in Athens by Coweta's government leaders sparked several debates about communication between leaders. One of the more spirited debates concerned the recently approved Coweta-Fayette Connector extending from TDK Boulevard that is supposed to bring relief to residents trying to get to Peachtree City and its industries. New Sharpsburg Mayor David Mullins wanted to know what specific plans the county has for dealing with what he believes will be an onslaught of traffic in his town. "What are you planning to do with the disbursement of 7,000 vehicles?" He asked. Turin Mayor Amy Starr agreed with Mullins and said she wasn't informed of the plans surrounding the road either. But County Commissioner Vernon "Mutt" Hunter, who has helped spearhead the effort to get the road built quickly, said there were plenty of public hearings about the road and there would be other transportation meetings with Peachtree City Mayor Steve Brown. "You can go to those meetings and see if you can handle him (Brown)," Hunter said. Besides, Hunter said, the most affected jurisdiction is going to be Senoia, not Sharpsburg or Turin. Senoia Mayor Dianne Cleveland agreed with Hunter and asked to be included on any future discussions about the road. Hunter said engineering plans are not complete for the road, but said other government leaders were welcome to offer their input on the issue.
