Mary M. Taylor


Mary M. Taylor, 83, East Point, died Jan. 25, 2003. She was born Aug. 24, 1920 in Alabama. Services were at the Parrott Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Robert Langley officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, College Park. Survivors include a son, Felton and Melba Taylor, Peachtree City; brothers, Hoy Burdette, LaGrange, and Brinton Burdette, East Point; a grandson, Keith and Tammy Taylor, Fayetteville; and great-grandchildren, Austin, Brock and Celia. Parrott Funeral Home, Fairburn, was in charge.

Clarence George Hartwick


Clarence George Hartwick, 86, Peachtree City, died Jan. 25, 2003. He was born Oct. 1, 1916 in Hillsdale, N. J. Services were held at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with a wake at Westwood Cemetery, Bergan, N J. Deacon Ben Gross officiated. Survivors include his wife, Grace Hartwick, Peachtree City; children, Clarence “Larry” and Cathy Hartwick, Ringwood, N. J., and Linda and Russell Gariota, Peachtree City; two grandchildren: brothers, Albert Hartwick, Hillsdale, N. J., and Robert Hartwick, Rockaway, N. J.; and a sister, Mary Rock, Thomas River, N. J. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Peachtree City, was in charge.

Pamela Masters Richards


Pamela Masters Richards, 44, Peachtree City, died Jan. 18, 2003. She was born June 24, 1958 in Bethesda, Md. Memorial services were at the St. Andrew's in-the-Pines with the Rev. Father Dan Brigham officiating. Survivors include her husband, Stan Richards, Peachtree City; a son, Brian Richards, Peachtree City; daughters, Jacqueline Richards and Kathleen Richards, both of Peachtree City; her parents, Don and Margaret Masters, Vero Beach, Fla.; and a sister, Susan and John Rider, Denver, Colo. Deirdre C. Devine


Deirdre C. “DeeDee” Devine, 46, Peachtree City, died Jan. 18, 2003. She was born Sept. 16, 1956 in Carmel, Calif. She was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Graveside services were at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City, with the Rev. Dr. Sam Matthews officiating. Survivors include sons, Clifford Burns, Ohio, and Marshall Barella, Savannah; a daughter, Emily Burns, Ohio; her mother, Judy Devine, Fayetteville; and sisters, Andree Devine, Peachtree City, Shawn Gilmore, Doraville, Christina Williams, Concord, N. C., and Kimberly Rountree, Sharpsburg. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Peachtree City, was in charge.

Kenneth Lindler


Kenneth Lindler, 65, Fayetteville, died Jan. 26, 2003. He was born April 4, 1937 in Fulton County. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was a retired Delta Air Lines purchasing agent.. Services were at the Tara Garden Chapel with Kinnett Overman and the Rev. Wil Fisher officiating. Interment was at Sherwood Memorial Park, Jonesboro. Survivors include his wife, Nelda Gaddy Lindler, Fayetteville; a son Kenneth Lindler, Hogansville; daughters, Kinnett and Tommy Overman, Tyrone, and Tracy and Ricky Green, Sharpsburg; a step-daughter, Hazel and Wayne Welch, Eatonton, Ga.; brothers, Ronnie Lindler, Decatur, and Gerald Lindler, Cornelia, Ga.; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Tara Garden Chapel, Jonesboro, was in charge.

George Thomas Sloan


George Thomas Sloan, 85, Waycross, formerly of Atlanta, died Jan. 27, 2003. He was born in Atlanta and had resided in Waycross for several years. He was a veteran of the United States Navy in World War II. He was a member of Olivet Baptist Church and was a former member of the Waycross Exchange Club. Services were at the Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral home, with the Rev. Ron McCollum officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn. Survivors include his wife, Kay Sloan; sons, Jeff Sloan, Donaldsonville, and Roger Sloan, Tyrone; stepsons, Charles Rittenhouse, Atlanta, Gary Crawford and Eddie Crawford, both of Waycross, and Ronald Crawford, Milledgeville; a brother, Allen Sloan, Chicago, Ill; three grandchildren; and two great-grandsons. Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home, Peachtree City, was in charge.

Robert F. Bell Jr.


Robert F. “Bob” Bell Jr., 75, Sharpsburg, died Jan. 27, 2003. He was born Feb. 3, 1927 in Banks County, Ga. He was retired from Georgia Power after 35 years of service. He was a member of the East Point Masonic Lodge #288 F&AM and the South Fulton Shrine Club. Services were at the Parrott Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Maria Wells officiating. Interment was at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens, Forest Park, Ga. Survivors include daughters, Brenda and Allen Smith, Fayetteville, and Elaine and Mike Nelson, Marietta; a brother, Edgar and Linda Bell, Athens, Tenn.; sisters, Clara Nell and Chandler Hewell, Fayetteville, and Jack and Laverne Vickery, Newnan; and grandchildren, Allison and Steve Smith. Norman Paul Fenton, PhD.


Norman Paul Fenton, PhD., 65, Archdale, N. C., died Jan. 27, 2003. He was born Nov. 13, 1937 in Erie, Penn. He was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Fenton. He served in the United States Air Force for four years, with duty in Korea. He completed his undergraduate studies at Gannon University and received his MBA and doctor of philosophy degrees from the University of Miami, Coral Gables, Fla. He recently retired as Dean for Academic Services at the College of Health Sciences in Roanoke, Va. A memorial service was held at Archdale Friends Meeting in Archdale. Survivors include his wife, Sharon Fenton; sisters, Jean Hubert and Lillian Herbstritt, both of Erie, Pa.; children, Cherryl Shanahan, Fayetteville, Ga., Michael Fenton, St. Cloud, Fla., and LTC Gregory Fenton, Virginia Beach, Va.; stepdaughters, Andrea and Blaine Smith, Salisbury, Va., Jennifer Bridges and Allison Hodges, both of Greensboro; step-grandchildren; Olivia Smith, Harrison Smith, Graham Smith, Spencer Bentsen, and Hayden Kreuter; and grandchildren; Jamie Shanahan, Kathleen Shanahan, Chad Fenton, Jerod Fenton, Madison Fenton and Cassandra Fenton. Janice Jarrett Duncan


Janice Jarrett Duncan, 55, Fayetteville, died Jan. 27, 2003. She was born Feb. 15, 1947 in Montgomery, Montgomery County, Ala. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Dr. John Avant officiating. Interment was at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. Survivors include her husband, Buddy Duncan, Fayetteville; a son, Joey Duncan, San Clemente, Calif.; a daughter, Beverly Copelan, Newnan; mother, Mae Jarrett, Montgomery, Ala.; grandchildren, Alva Copelan and Christopher Copelan, both of Newnan; brothers, Carey Jarrett and Tommy Jarrett, both of Montgomery, Ala.; and sisters, Ann Martin, Montgomery, Ala., and Nan Conger, Mobile, Ala. Huie Felton Hand


Huie Felton Hand, 83, Fayetteville, died Jan. 28, 2003. He was born Sept. 3, 1919 in Henry County. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with Elder Michael Sawyer officiating. Interment was at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville. Survivors include his wife, Wanda Hand, Fayetteville; a daughter, Ramona and Sandy Malcolm, Fayetteville; grandchildren, Lori and Cary Payne Jr., and Jeffrey Frey, all of Fayetteville, and Joel Frey and Ginger Crowe, Forest Park; great-grandchild, Cary David Payne III, Fayetteville; a brother, Benjamin F. and Shirley Hand Jr., Tampa; and sisters, Mary Huddleston and Loretta Roberts, both of Fayetteville, and Ilean Roberts, Senoia. John Snyder Tilton Sr.


John Snyder Tilton Sr., 84, Jonesboro, Fayette County, died Jan. 29, 2003. He was born April 28, 1918 in Washington, D.C. and was a fourth generation Washingtonian. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Brooks Tilton. He was graduated from Old Western High School. He received a masters degree from George Washington University and then served with the British Air Commission and the United States Navy during World War II. He had been a career officer in the CIA, and moved to Fayette County in February, 1991. Memorial services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Frank Ellis officiating. Interment was at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City. Survivors include his sons, Jack and Rhonda Tilton, and David Tilton, all of Fayetteville, and Glenn and Jackie Tilton, Chicago, Ill six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Sandy Tilton, Maitland, Fla. Theresa D. Nolde


Theresa D. “Dee” Nolde, 81, Fayetteville, died Jan. 30, 2003. She was born July 24, 1921 in Cordell, Okla. She was preceded in death by her parents, William A. and Verna Crutchfield, and a brother, Glenn Crutchfield. She was a past-president of the Long Beach Petroleum Wives Club and a member of the Fayetteville Christian Church. Services were at the Fayetteville Christian Church with Minister Daniel Overdorf officiating. Interment was at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City. Survivors include her husband, Walter E. Nolde, Fayetteville; sons, Norman and Sylvia Nolde, Fayetteville, and Gary and Shy Nolde, Corvallis, Ore.; grandchildren, Patricia R. Early and Scott Nolde, both of Norcross, Emily M. Nolde, Elias R. Nolde, Jonah E. Nolde, and Sara R. Nolde, all of Corvallis; a great-grandchild, Carter E. Nolde, Norcross; a nephew, Jerry Crutchfield; and a niece, Donna Wilson. Carl J.
