CCSU Opera performs Haydn's 'The World on the Moon' Feb. 21-22 in Spivey Hall The Clayton College & State University Opera program invites you to the Atlanta premiere of "The World on the Moon" ("Il Mondo Della Luna"), a composition by 18th-century virtuoso Franz Joseph Haydn. Performances are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Feb. 21-22, at 8:15 p.m. in Spivey Hall. "The World on the Moon" general admission is $10. Tickets may be purchased by calling the Spivey Hall ticket office at 770-961-3683. Clayton State students who present their student LINX card are admitted at no charge. The production will feature a student cast directed by Clayton State's new director of opera and vocal activities, Dr. Kurt-Alexander Zeller, and a professional orchestra under the baton of Dr. Shaun Amos, Clayton State assistant professor of music. "The World on the Moon," to be performed in Naomi Ornest's English translation, is a three-act comic fantasy based on a play by Carlo Goldoni. The opera tells of how charlatan astronomer Dr. Ecclitico, with the help of two ingenious servants, dupes old miser Buonafede into believing he has experienced space travel so that Buonafede's daughters can marry the men they love. Will the moonstruck Buonafede finally come down to earth? Will his daughters live happily ever after? Come see Clayton State's "The World on the Moon" to find out! Composed in 1777, "The World on the Moon" was written for the wedding of Prince Nikolaus' younger son to the Countess Anna Maria von Weissenwolf. Performed in an intimate ceremony, the Clayton State production aims for the same intimate feel. Says Zeller, "I've often heard how [the late] Mrs. Spivey wanted audiences to feel as if she had invited them right into her home to enjoy music together ... Come be our guest for an evening of Haydn's unique formula of gorgeous music and zany silliness." Purchase tickets for "The World on the Moon" by calling the Spivey Hall ticket office at 770-961-3683. Spivey Hall is located on the Clayton State campus in Morrow.
