New child support payment service from DHR

Hate dealing with the bureaucracy? Get frustrated trying to find out information when you need to know if your child's support check has been paid or not? E-government services make dealing with the Georgia Department of Human Resources (DHR) much more convenient. The DHR's Office of Child Support Enforcement (OCSE) has made information related to child support checks available through the Internet, making it easier to find out the status of the payments while preserving the privacy of personal information.

"Where's My Child's Check?" can be reached through the DHR Web site at www.dhr.state.gov, and citizens with established cases with the OCSE can access the last six checks that have been processed on their case. Future releases will be known as OCSE Constituent Services and will provide access to all payments, ability to update address information, case status information, the ability to apply online and the ability to pay online.

Using a reference number and a PIN, the OCSE applicant can view the check date, check amount, and name of the check payee.

To insure the accuracy and availability of the "Where's My Child's Check?" system, the first three months of operations was used as a test. A controlled group of Custodial Parents were first given notification of the system and provided PIN numbers. Then local OCSE offices began giving the PIN numbers to individual Custodians. From Oct. 1, 2002 through December 31, 2002, 13,000 people have accessed the "Where's My Child's Check?" program. A notice will be sent to all OCSE Custodial Parents the first of March that will contain instructions on accessing the system and providing them with a PIN number.

Currently, the OCSE has 475,000 active cases with over 600,000 children attached to these cases. The "Where's My Child's Check?" allows access to check information anytime and anywhere. The OCSE customer is not confined to offices hours or the Hotline Operation hours.

According to Robert Riddle, "'Where's My Child's Check?' allows OCSE constituents to access their child support information anytime, anywhere. It is a big step in improving communication with the child support community."
