Colonial tea at Peeples Students in the fourth grade at Peeples Elementary School in Fayetteville participated in week-long colonial activities as they completed a unit in social studies on colonial America. During the week, students created authentic early American crafts including dried apple wreaths, quilts, calligraphy invitations, placemats, paper quilling, and hand-dipped wax candles. The week was capped off with a formal tea held in the school's cafeteria. The students, dressed in colonial costumes, and their invited guests were treated to a spread of fruit, baked goods, and cider. The fourth-graders then entertained a captive audience with early American dances they had learned from their music teacher, Tonya Hearn. The enthusiastic students were eager to show off what they'd crafted and learned while many parents video taped and photographed the event. The hands-on activities and colonial tea were planned and implemented by Peeples Elementary fourth-grade teachers and a host of parent volunteers.
