Generators tabbed for sewer pump stations to protect Lake Kedron By JOHN MUNFORD To help protect Lake Kedron's water quality, the Peachtree City Water and Sewerage Authority is paying for emergency power generators to be installed at four nearby pump stations. The stations rely on power periodically to pump sewage, but when power outages occur, there's no power, which leaves the opportunity for the sewage to overflow from the area and perhaps into the lake. Now, when the power goes out, WASA crews move a portable generator to use in the area until power is restored, said WASA General Manager Larry Turner. But with the new generators at the pump stations, there will be no need to do that, Turner said. "We felt these were critical locations," Turner said. The authority awarded the project to the low bidder, which was Womack Electric Company, for $198,360. It will cost an additional $15,000 to link the pump stations up to the authority's computer monitoring system, Turner said.
