Adams completes deployment

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Joshua B. Adams, son of Betty J. White of Lilburn and Kevin L. Adams of Fayetteville, recently completed a six-month deployment to the Western Pacific and Arabian Gulf while assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS Belleau Wood, based in San Diego.

Adams was one of more than 10,000 Pacific Fleet sailors and Marines aboard the ships of the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Battle Group and USS Belleau Wood Amphibious Ready Group.

During the deployment, Adams' ship visited ports in Singapore, Bahrain, Seychelles, Australia, Guam and Hawaii, where the crew had the opportunity to shop, sightsee and enjoy the local culture and cuisine.

The Belleau Wood supports amphibious operations using landing craft air cushions, which are specially designed Hovercraft that travel above land and sea surfaces and deliver vehicles and equipment. The ship also has conventional landing craft and helicopters embarked, and is equipped with medical facilities staffed by Navy doctors, dentists, nurses and corpsmen.

Adams is a 2000 graduate of Parkview High School in Lilburn and joined the Navy in July of 2000. For more information visit the Belleau Wood's Web site at www.lha3.navy.mil/ or e-mail the public affairs officer at pao@lha3.navy.mil.
