Fairburn lifts watering ban

Fairburn officials lifted the watering ban Monday night for homeowners this week after learning the state had dropped its ban.

A rainy winter caused the state to lift the ban and Fairburn followed the lead of other metro communities in dropping the ban.

In other actions at Monday's meeting, the City Council:

Readopted updated versions of the city's zoning ordinances and its amendments and well as the zoning map.

City Manager Jim Williams said the ordinance was last updated in 1996. For some reason, there was not a signed ordinance for whatever reason no one knows and now the city needs proof that it's legally approved.

Granted the housing authority an annual waiver of its PILOT (Payment in Lieu of Taxes) account on the property taxes which would be payable to the city for the current operating year.

The budget of the Housing Authority of Fairburn is very tight and limited to minimal operating expenditures. This waiver request assists the housing authority in meeting the needs of its residents.
