Congressman Scott reacts to President's speech Congressman David Scott (D-Ga.) issued the following statement in reaction to the President's State of the Union Address: "Tonight, the President spoke of the many global challenges facing our great nation, and of our need to stand strong in the face of threats from abroad. I agree with him that we face many challenges both abroad and at home and I believe the American people are eager to meet those challenges. I stand with President Bush on his policy toward Iraq and I will work with him as he continues to lay out his case to the American people. But I urge the President to address the challenges to our homeland security policy as well. We must provide the necessary funding to assist our states and cities to pay for the safeguards against more terrorist attacks here at home as we build the necessary infrastructure for homeland security. I also hope the President will listen when my constituents say that the threats to their jobs and the challenges facing our economy are real. We need an economic stimulus plan that not only gives much needed tax cuts to the wealthy, but also provides tax cuts to the middle class and working families and small businesses. That is what will put money into the hands of those who will spend it most and spend it quickly and will boost our economy immediately, creating jobs. I look forward to working with the President in the next year to meet all of these challenges for the American people."
