Annual concert Feb. 22 to benefit seniors

The seventh annual music concert to benefit Fayette Senior Services, a event which is fast becoming a tradition in the community, is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 22, at 7 p.m. at Sams Auditorium.

Although prior concerts have featured country music artists, this year's event will feature a more varied program. The Silver Eagle Band is the headline group, specializing in the hits of the 1960s and 1970s. The band has been pleasing audiences of all ages with their rendition of timeless hits such as "Come to Boston," Dock of the Bay," "Brown Eyed Girl," "Sweet Home Alabama" and many other favorites.

Also appearing will be the Fayette County High School Jazz Band to bring some big-band classics. The Fayette County High Select Chorus' male quartet will be bringing memories of the doo-wop era with favorites such as "Kiss Him Goodbye" and other popular melodies.

"This year's program will provide memories for everyone and is sure to be a crowd-pleaser," said Tina DeCotis, chairman of the Fayette Senior Services concert committee. "We are very fortunate to book the much-in-demand Silver Eagle Band and be able to round out the program with outstanding local talent."

The Silver Eagle Band appears bi-weekly at the Wyndham Peachtree Conference Center and has performed widely throughout north Georgia and South Carolina. Many local fans remember them from their appearance at the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater in Peachtree City. They were a real crowd-pleaser as the opening band for the Drifters at Atlanta Beach in Jonesboro.

Fayette Senior Services is a nonprofit organization committed to providing services to seniors to allow them to remain independent and live at home as long as possible. The most widely known service is the Meals on Wheels program, but the congregate meals offered at the Friendship Center and the educational and referral programs provided to seniors are also invaluable.

With a small staff and a large number of dedicated volunteers, Fayette Senior Services provides a vital service for Fayette's seniors. The annual concert helps support the activities of the Fayette Senior Center.

Tickets are $5 for adults, $7 at the door and $3 for children. Advance tickets for groups or individuals can be purchased by calling Fayette Senior Services 770-461-0813 or 770-461-8970. Tickets will be on sale at Sams Auditorium the night of the concert.
