Local sailor helping out overseas

Navy Seaman Daniel D. Mundy, son of Laureen A. and Roger D. Mundy of Peachtree City, recently contributed to relief efforts on Guam during a Western Pacific deployment while assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk, homeported in Yokosuka, Japan.

Sailors aboard Mundy's ship joined members of the Fleet Activities Yokosuka community setting up field galleys to aid those whose homes were battered by Super Typhoon Pongsona, which hit Guam with winds of 180 miles per hour.

Carriers like the Kitty Hawk are deployed around the world to maintain a U.S. presence and provide rapid response in times of crisis. They serve as a highly visible deterrent to would-be aggressors, and are equipped with the most versatile and powerful weapons and aircraft available.

Mundy is a 1998 graduate of McIntosh High School and joined the Navy in 2001.
