Wild game dinner?

By KNOX HERNDON
Pastor

I was just talking to my good friend and prayer partner Justin Kollmeyer with Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. We were discussing how we were going to get together and divide up the work in the joint hosting of this "Wild Game Dinner." By the way it is on Tuesday Night at 6:30 PM on the 4th of February at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church on Highway 314, which is sandwiched in between the Fayette Pavilion and Lowe's. As we were talking, Justin told me he was inviting a parishioner to the dinner who said to him, "wild game dinner, just what kind of wild games are we going to play??" I thought that was pretty funny, and that his parishioner needed to get out more!

As I thought more about it, I suppose there are those who really don't know what goes on at a "Wild Game Dinner." I have hunted and fished most of my life and hope to as long as wheel chairs are allowed in the wild. The reason I say "wheel chairs" is that I am currently on a pair of crutches due to another adventure that I will share in another article. I have attended several of these dinners over the years and have always had a super time at them. I attended several that New Hope Baptist Church has hosted and several at Roswell Street Baptist Church in Marietta. At both of these wonderful churches, there have been great crowds of people. The one at Roswell Street had over 1000 in attendance and the ones here in Fayetteville at New Hope had close to that number. This is our first Wild Game Dinner and what makes it special are several things. First of all, it is probably a "first" to have a Baptist and a Lutheran church partner in this fellowship opportunity. Secondly the two men who are flying in to participate with us are very special. Bill O'Halloran is a retired US Army Helicopter pilot and is a hero of mine. He will not tell you but he has quite a distinguished military record and was shot down in Viet Nam. He is also quite a dad, husband, and most of all, my Christian hunting and fishing friend. If you will buy me a few cokes and about 6 Krystals, I'll tell you some hunting stories about Bill that will knock your socks off. Remind me of the one where Bill saved a man and his wife that had been lost for 5 days. I was there, I saw that one. Another great American and friend is John Grimsley. John played as a linebacker for the Miami Dolphins and the Houston Oilers. He not only held several NFL sports records but has an outstanding hunting operation called "World Class Expeditions" which runs hunts to Mexico, Texas and South America. Both of these wonderful sportsmen and friends will be at the dinner sharing their experiences.

If you promise to be really quiet, Bill and I will teach you some very special "MOOSE CALLS" that work every time,Ķ..THERE GOES MY NOSE AGAIN!! This only happens around hunters and fishermen for some reason. If you decide to come, you can get tickets from me at His House at 770-719-2365, or from the church office at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church at 770-461-3403.

The best part of the evening will be your fellowship with other Christians who love the same things. Be sure to bring your hunting and fishing pictures to share with those at your table. Who knows, you may be sitting at a table with a future hunting buddy you haven't even met yet! If you would be interested in forming a Christian hunting and fishing club let me know. There will be a clipboard going around for this purpose. Fish on!! Hunt on!! Jesus said "Follow Me and I will make you Fishers of Men."
