Investigation into Twiggs Corner suicide still open but no change expected

Peachtree City police are still waiting on results from chemical tests before closing the case on an apparent suicide that occurred Saturday at a residence in Twiggs Corner, a condominium community.

Deiridre C. Devine, 46, was pronounced dead at Atlanta Medical Center after she reportedly shot herself, police said. But before she did, she shot twice and missed at the person who lived at the residence, according to police.

Although the pathologist's report points to a suicide, police are awaiting the results of gunshot residue tests before closing the case as a suicide, said police chief James Murray.

"I'm fairly certain that's going to be the case," Murray said, adding that other evidence also points to the case being ruled a suicide.

The witness, who had found Devine in a closet when he returned home Saturday morning, told her to leave before she pulled the gun, a .380 automatic pistol, and fired two shots at the man, Murray said.

The witness told police that after Devine shot at him twice, he heard her say she was going to kill herself just before firing a third shot, Murray said.
