PTC amphitheater staff returns after seven years to renovated office space By JOHN MUNFORD The staff of the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater in Peachtree City now has its own office again. A recent renovation of the amphitheater's original office, which dates back to the late 1970s, will allow patrons to get better service, said amphitheater director Donna Romeo. That's because the new office features two box office windows so patrons don't have to walk all the way down to the amphitheater to pick up their tickets, Romeo said. A covered porch area allows plenty of room for patrons to line up to get their tickets in inclement weather also. "The best part is we'll be able to improve our customer service," Romeo said. The amphitheater renovation also left plenty of room for the Southern Conservation Trust to run its programs. The SCT's portion of the building and the amphitheater's offices each have separate entrances. A downstairs kitchen and activity area will be used to entertain sponsors before shows, Romeo said. There are also plans to host senior citizen programs there during the day since the city hasn't been able yet to fund an expansion of The Gathering Place, Romeo said. "They did a really nice job on this," Romeo said of the renovation project. "It's a face lift. A very, very nice face lift." Judi Rutherford, whose desk is in the box office, has a view of the amphitheater from her windows. That's another nice part about moving back into the old office, Romeo said before, when they were located inside the recreation department's offices, they had no idea when deliveries came to the amphitheater. And Rutherford said it's neat to watch residents bring out-of-town guests down the path to the amphitheater to show it off. As for the amphitheater's new office building, it comes with quite a bit of history. At one time it housed the city's recreation department offices. Several recreation department employees have shared several ghost stories with the amphitheater staff about how Chief McIntosh's spirit resides in the building, Romeo said. "It's funny, because people will come in and say, 'I took childbirth classes up there,' or ceramics or painting," Romeo said. Although the staff is not ready to release the names of all the acts planned for the annual summer concert series, the dates have already been set and are posted on the amphitheater's Web site, www.amphitheater.org. That way, patrons can plan their vacations around the concerts if they wish, Romeo said.
