Deal near to extend TDK Blvd.

It appears that local governments have their financial ducks in a row to get TDK Boulevard extended into Coweta County as an alternate route to Peachtree City's industrial park.

The Peachtree City Council held a special meeting last night to consider funding for the project while the Fayette County Commission discussed its share of the TDK funding an hour later at its regular meeting.

Representatives from both sides met last Thursday morning and although they were close to an agreement, Councilman Dan Tennant said they didn't want to release any information about the preliminary agreement.

"It's slightly premature to go into the details but we have every reason to believe the TDK extension will happen," Tennant said. "Hopefully we'll get this resolved real soon."

Local businesses and industries are clamoring for the road work, particularly to relieve the influx of their employees who live in Coweta County and depend on the traffic-choked Ga. Highway 54 to travel to Peachtree City.

The Peachtree City Council plans to attend the County Commission meeting after adjourning its meeting at the suggestion of councilwoman Annie McMenamin "in the spirit of cooperation."

Across Line Creek in Coweta County, the Coweta County Commission awaited results from Thursday's commission meeting.

The county has already committed up to $1 million to fund the road, and Commissioner Vernon "Mutt" Hunter said the county stands ready to start on its portion of the road.

"I've met with Fayette County Commission chairman Greg Dunn and Peachtree City Mayor Steve Browb twice. I told them we would be dealing with Fayette County on the issue and waited to hear back," he said.

Hunter is tired of the innuendos and allegations that he has heard about Coweta's committment to the road since Brown's election and said Coweta has always been committed to the road.

He said Coweta's portion of the road should not take that long to build, but said Fayette, Coweta and Peachtree City will have to work together on getting the bridge built that crosses Line Creek.

"The bridge will take longer to coordinate," he said.
