The composition of Coweta County's Convention and Visitors Bureau board will change this year.

Director Angela White asked the Coweta County Commission Tuesday to change the number of seats on the board from 17 to 12.

White believes the new number will be easier to work with, and she also wants to change who serves on the board.

Currently, the board is composed of representatives of all the municipalities and the county, but White wants the focus to be more on businesses and individuals that are a part of the tourism industry, or are closely affected by it.

The County Commission agreed with White's concept, but Commissioner Robert Wood wanted to make sure the board's "diversity" was not lost when new people were added to it.

Commissioner Vernon "Mutt" Hunter agreed with lowering the number to 12 and trying to have diverse opinions on the board, but warned he didn't want to see the integrity of the board sacrificed for diversity.

The visitors bureau had an extremely successful year in 2002, and White said she wants to build on that success, by going after more of the motorcoach business that brings thousands of visitors to communities around the nation.

In order to do that, White believes representatives from some of the county's establishments, such as hotels and attractions, are better suited to help lure the visitors to Coweta County.

The board currently has nine vacancies that need to be filled, and White has several people in mind, but said she has not contacted any of the folks yet.
