Veterans memorial brick project to end soon

Time is running out for local residents who have delayed ordering memorial bricks for friends and family members who have served in the military, according to a spokesman for Peachtree City VFW Post 9949, the project's sponsor.

Bob Konrad, quartermaster for the post, said that he has been advised by brick supplier Georgia Marble that the company plans to cease manufacturing memorial bricks in white marble or red clay by the middle of this year. The post has decided to set a March 10 cutoff date for new orders and send in an order for all bricks ordered in the previous 12 months. These bricks will be installed before Memorial Day.

Georgia Marble is trying to find a local firm which supplies cemetery markers to pick up the white marble brick manufacturing. If Post 9949 succeeds in finding another brick supplier, it will continue to accept brick orders until all available space is filled.

Many printed applications for this project instruct the applicant to send a check for $25 per brick. Those forms may be used, but the payment as of Jan. 1 must be $30 per brick. Send payments and application forms to VFW Post 9949, 117 Chadwick Drive, Peachtree City, GA 30269.

Additional corrected brick applications are available at the Peachtree City Library or by calling 770-631-1439.
