Cities approve resolution supporting construction of TDK extension By JOHN MUNFORD All of Fayette's city governments have signed off on a resolution supporting the "timely construction" of the extension of TDK Boulevard from Peachtree City into Coweta County. The project has historically been referred to as the "TDK extension" but is now being called the "Coweta-Fayette Connector." In the resolution, the governments cite the need to create another access road to relieve traffic congestion on state highways such as the oft-clogged Ga. Highway 54. Also, the project is "vital for the continued successful development of the Peachtree City Industrial Park," which the resolution notes is a regional employment center and tax base. The connector road, which would span Line Creek, would also enhance public safety, the cities indicate in the resolution. The resolution was handed to Fayette County Commission chairman Greg Dunn at Tuesday night's meeting of the Association of Fayette County Governments. The county must consider the resolution before Dunn can sign on, according to officials. The resolution comes over a week after state Sen. Mitch Seabaugh, R-Sharpsburg, asked the Peachtree City City Council to prioritize its road projects and make sure necessary city funding is in place for those projects. The need is critical now because some of those projects, such as the widening of Ga. Highway 74 south to four lanes, might be fast tracked in the near future, Seabaugh said. Peachtree City Mayor Steve Brown has said he is wary of extending TDK Boulevard into Coweta before Hwy. 74 is widened since it might cause traffic on that arterial road to increase dramatically.
