Piedmont to host homeschool eventsFayette County homeschooled students and their families can get information about making the transition to college during two special events at Piedmont College. Piedmont will hold a visitation day for homeschooled students Thursday, Jan. 30, from 2-6 p.m at the main campus in Demorest. Students and parents will meet with faculty and current Piedmont students, tour the campus, and enjoy a complimentary dinner. Representatives from the Financial Aid and Admissions offices will hold information sessions to provide assistance and answer questions about academic programs, joint enrollment for high school students, and campus life. To register for the free visitation day, contact the Piedmont Admissions Office at (706) 776-0103 or 1-800-277-7020 by Jan. 23. Also, Kathleen Duncan of Gainesville will offer an optional evening seminar Jan. 30 from 6-10 p.m. for families interested in homeschooling middle and high school students. Duncan will discuss her family's experiences homeschooling seven children, including three high school students. Topics will include record keeping, standardized tests, graduation requirements, college admissions, and creating portfolios. The cost for Duncan's seminar is $35 if paid by the early registration date of Jan. 20, or $45 at the door. To register for the seminar, contact Duncan at 770-503-0455.
