'Stay away from PTC,' Chief warns robber By JOHN
MUNFORD
Peachtree City and Tyrone police are working to identify an armed robbery suspect who was caught on video as he held up convenience stores in both jurisdictions Friday and Sunday mornings. The same suspect robbed the Flash Foods convenience store on Crosstown Road in Peachtree City early Friday morning and the Tyrone Amoco on Tyrone Road early Sunday morning, according to law enforcement accounts. "We got a good look at his face," Peachtree City Police Chief James Murray said of the surveillance video. The same silver-colored handgun was used on both incidents, he added. "It's the same guy, no doubt about it," Murray said. In the Peachtree City incident, the suspect took money and cigarettes, Murray said. The suspect entered the store at approximately 5:32 a.m. and demanded money from the cash register, according to reports. He drove off in a dark colored pick-up truck, police said. Murray warned the suspect not to return and pull the same stunt in Peachtree City and he also vowed that the suspect would be caught. "If he does the same thing again, it could lead to serious and deadly consequences for him," Murray said. "When he goes in with a pulled weapon, he is putting his own life at risk. ... We're gonna catch him and show him what happens when you carry a gun for a living." Police are offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the armed robbery, Murray said. The suspect was described as a black male between 30 and 40 years old, approximately 6 feet tall and 150 pounds with short dark hair wearing a black jacket, jogging pants, a pull over shirt and tennis shoes. Police were running fingerprints from the scene through the state's database of known criminals, Murray said. Investigators were also checking to see if there is any connection with any convicts recently released from the state prison system who have been convicted of armed robbery, Murray added. Peachtree City investigators were working the case around the clock with other police agencies in an effort to identify and arrest the suspect, Murray said. The chief also pledged the armed robbery would be "solved." "We have not had an unsolved armed robbery in the city," Murray said, adding that it appeared the suspect was "taking advantage" of the situation in the timing of the robberies. Details about the Tyrone incident were unavailable at press time because Tyrone Police Chief Roger Spencer was unavailable and the detective working the case declined to release any information on the case before talking with Spencer.
