Last year, Peachtree City elected a new mayor.

This year, the city has a new mayor pro tem as well. Dan Tennant was chosen for the position, following in the footsteps of veteran councilwoman Annie McMenamin, who has served in the position for the past four years.

Tennant was elected by a motion from Mayor Steve Brown that was seconded by councilman Steve Rapson. McMenamin also voted in favor of Tennant, which was necessary for approval since councilman Murray Weed was absent from the meeting and Tennant himself abstained from the vote.

Three votes are required to approve any measure by rule of the city's charter.

Tennant thanked his fellow council members for the honor.

McMenamin, who is serving out the last year of her final term, said she felt "extremely privileged" to serve the citizens of Peachtree City. She added that in the past year she "hasn't had much to do" beyond responding to citizen inquiries.

"I'll continue to work just as hard in my last year as I did in my first," McMenamin said to strong applause from the crowd. The crowd also applauded Tennant after he was sworn in to the new position by Brown.

McMenamin is restricted from running for council again because of term limits.
