Dunn turns back chairmanship challenge By JOHN THOMPSON
Fayette County Commission chairman Greg Dunn has survived the first challenge of the new year. Dunn was reelected chairman last week, only after vice-chairman Linda Wells decided she did not want the job. During the county's organizational meeting last Thursday, Commissioner A.G. VanLandingham made a motion for Wells to become chairman, followed by a second from Commissioner Herb Frady. But Wells declined the offer and motioned for Dunn to be reappointed chairman. The motion passed 3-1 with Frady casting the lone "no" vote. After the meeting, Wells said she declined the nomination because she feels Dunn has done a good job. "He's made a lot of contacts with state people and we need to maintain that relationship," she said. Wells also cited the time involved for the position. "Greg's retired and can devote a lot more time to it," she said. She said she had been approached last year by VanLandingham and Frady about taking the post, but told them she would have to decline.
