A solo pilot attempting to land at Falcon Field just after 5:30 p.m. Wednesday evening crashed an experimental aircraft just short of the runway.

The pilot, whose name was not available at press time, had minor injuries, according to Peachtree City Fire Chief Stony Lohr.

Lohr said he was told the plane lost its engine power "for reasons unknown" as the pilot was attempting to land the RV-6 Alpha.

The plane landed just inside the fence at Falcon Field near Stallings Road. It flipped during the crash, coming to rest upside-down with its landing gear pointed skywards.

The plane fortunately did not catch fire upon making contact with the ground, Lohr said.

The wreckage was being surveyed by investigators Thursday morning before it was removed from the scene. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident although no FAA representatives could be reached for comment by press time Thursday.
