Home Depot chips in for landscaping at playground memorial for volunteer

The Home Depot in Peachtree City recently donated funding to provide landscaping at the Luther Holt Memorial at the All Children's Playground at Picnic Park.

The memorial, which consists of a monument in Holt's honor, stands at the entry to the playground. It was donated by the Fayette County branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

Holt was instrumental in the fundraising campaign for the fully-accessible playground before his death over two years ago. Holt served as a professional, volunteer and participant in recreation, parks and youth activities for 47 years.

The All Children's Playground was designed with special rubberized surfaces and features to allow all children, regardless of their abilities, to play on the equipment. Fundraising is currently underway for a final phase of the project which would add swings among other amenities. Interested persons may call the recreation department for more information at 770-631-2542.

Peachtree City Mayor Steve Brown commended Home Depot officials for helping out with the project.

"Home Depot has made a wonderful commitment to honor our city heroes with this generous donation," Brown said. "I extend the city's thanks to them for this donation."
