Georgia Archives announces schedule for Morrow move

The Georgia Archives has announced the schedule for its move to a new building in Morrow this spring. The move will require Archives to limit access to some of its services for a brief time until the move is complete.

Access to original records will end Jan. 31; however, the library and microfilm room will remain open through the close of business March 28. Until then, Archives will continue its regular business hours from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. Patrons are encouraged to note these schedule changes, when planning their research needs.

For the latest updates, visit the Archive's Web site at www.GeorgiaArchives.org. The site provides information on the new building, a list of frequently asked questions, and a gallery of construction photos.

Jan. 1: New Year's Day holiday.

Jan. 31: All original records in the vaults are closed, and mail, telephone, and e-mail reference ends. However, the library and microfilm room will remain open.

Feb. 3: Move of original records begins.

March 28: Library and microfilm room close to the public at the end of the business day.

April 11: Physical move of records and personnel ends. Placement, arrangement, and verification of records begin at new building.

April 23: New building opens and all services resume.

All dates are best estimates and are subject to change. For tips on how to plan your research to minimize inconvenience during the move, please visit www.GeorgiaArchives.org.

"We deeply appreciate your patience during this time," said Archives Director David W. Carmicheal. "The new Georgia Archives will provide safer storage for our records and more modern, convenient access to those documents for you, our patrons. We think you will agree that the long-term benefits of this move far outweigh the temporary inconvenience."

The goal is to minimize the impact on patrons' research. For further assistance, please contact Anne Smith, Assistant Director for Public Services, at 404-657-4530 or asmith@sos.state.ga.us.
