'Chipper' program transforms trash trees into treasures

Wondering what to do with that towering tree that stood as the focal point of the season's festivities but once Christmas is over can't be taken down and gotten rid of fast enough?

The "Bring One for the Chipper" program is the answer to your after-Christmas dilemma with the tree. Bring your tree Saturday, Jan. 4, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. to one of four different recycling locations where Christmas trees are chipped into mulch and exchanged for hardwood tree seedlings. Keep Fayette Beautiful and the Fayette County Extension Service recycled over 3,000 trees at last year's event.

Sponsored by The Home Depot, Kroger Company and White Meadows Tree Service, the sites this year will include:

Dorothea Redwine Park on Byewood Lane, Tyrone.

North Kedron Kroger, 1101 Peachtree Pkwy at Hwy. 74 N, Peachtree City.

Fayetteville Home Depot, 103 Pavilion Way, Hwy. 85, Fayetteville.

Peachtree City Recycling Center, Rockaway Road and Hwy. 74 S, Peachtree City.
