A Peachtree City man who was reported missing last week was killed on Interstate 20 near Augusta the following evening when he was struck by a vehicle after leaving his vehicle on foot, according to police.

Donald Dwyer, 81, had left his Honda Odyssey on the side of the road at approximately 10 p.m. before he was struck by another vehicle traveling on I-20, according to information provided to the Peachtree City Police Department, said Maj. Mike DuPree.

Dwyer's family had reported him missing Dec. 3 and after police issued an alert for him and his vehicle, a missing person's report was issued, DuPree said. Police also provided information and a photo of Dwyer to Atlanta television stations in the hopes someone in the area might have had information on his whereabouts, DuPree added.

Dwyer had recently moved to Peachtree City from Florida, DuPree said.
