Noel November raises $30,000

Christmas trees, wreaths, mantelpieces, topiaries, table settings and even original ornaments from the White House went on the auction block Nov. 16 at the Barn in Tyrone, site of the Fayette County Board of Realtors' eighth annual "Noel November, A Celebration of Trees & Wreaths."

More than one hundred holiday items were auctioned off in benefit of children's charities in Fayette County, including the Fayette Youth Protection Home, Fayette County Special Olympics, Fayette County Schools Mentoring Program and the Bedford School.

"Noel November is an annual highlight of the holiday season in our community, and it's also provided needed funds for worthy local organizations," said co-chair Stephen Walker.

The day-long celebration began with an open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. where families strolled along a wintry path through trees and wreaths admiring the handiwork of local citizens, companies and organizations who donated their creations to the event. Setting the musical tone were local children's choral groups who performed throughout the day, including the Spirit Singers from Fayetteville Intermediate School, the K-Kids from Fayetteville Elementary, children's choirs from Peeples Elementary and Christ's Church at Whitewater, along with a saxophone quintet from Fayette County High School.

Awards for auctioned entries were decided by three prominent community leaders on hand for the event: Chip Young, owner of the Barn; state Sen. Mitch Seabaugh; and Cindy Lester, a Fayette County Realtors and president-elect of the Georgia Association of Realtors.

The Most Creative Tree Award went to the Home Source Realtors for "It's For The Birds." The Most Festive Wreath Award went to Our Father's House for "Christmas Celebration." The People's Choice Award went to The Complete Insurance Source for "All Set For Christmas." The Outstanding Theme Tree went to Jan Trammell Real Estate for "Fayette County, The Hot Spot." The Children's Award went to The Complete Insurance Source for "Soak up the Holidays." Best of Show went to Carolyn Croft for "Christmas Rose." Best Small Tree Award went to the Fayette Youth Protection Home for "Home For Christmas," and the Best Festive Arrangement went to Douglas Pest Control for "Joyful Christmas."

"The support of the community was overwhelming and encourages us to continue this wonderful event year after year," said Noel November co-chair Cindy Davidson.
