County gains more national certified teachersFayette's classrooms have gained 10 more nationally certified teachers. The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) recently released the names of those teachers who successfully passed the 2002 national certification criteria. Fayette's national certification recipients are among the 380 teachers in the state and 7,800 nationwide to receive the honor this year. Fayette's newest National Board Certified Teachers are Joyce Blake and Lisa Marmon of Whitewater Middle, Loretta Doggendorf of Fayette County High, Jennifer Ritter of J.C. Booth Middle, Cathy Falzone of Sara Harp Minter Elementary and Cynde Snider, Donna Cates, Leslie White, Becky Ryckeley and Bob Covell, all of Starr's Mill High School. With the addition of the new certificates, the county now has 31 National Board Certified teachers. National Board Certification is a symbol of teaching excellence. A voluntary process established by NBPTS, it is achieved through a rigorous performance-based assessment that takes nearly a year to complete. Through this process, teachers document their deep knowledge of the subject matter they teach, provide evidence that they know how to teach their subjects to students effectively and demonstrate their ability to manage and measure student learning.
