Fairburn City Council won't shorten waiting period for refiling rezoning

If you get turned down for a rezoning in Fairburn, you're probably still going to have to wait a year before you can refile an application.

That was the consensus of the City Council after city administrator Jim Williams suggested the council look at lowering the time frame to six months.

Councilman Harvey Melear was dead set against relaxing the timeline.

"That's the way we've always done it. The matter can come up before a year if a councilman decides to bring it back," he said.

Melear said a six month window could create the same zoning matters to keep appearing before the council.

Councilman Glenn Higgins agreed with Melear, but reiterated councilpeople still had the option of opening zoning items up for discussion before a year had passed if there was new information available.
