Christmas festivities in Senoia this weekend By JOHN

Next weekend promises to be a busy Christmas weekend in Senoia. This year's Light Up Senoia celebration is set for Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. A parade featuring Santa Claus will kick off the festivities, and the parade will culminate at the intersection of Main and Seavy Street for the lighting of the tree. Any resident who wants to be in the parade should contact Judyl Belisle or another committee member. In addition to the parade, local groups will be selling hot chocolate and other goodies, and local choirs will contribute to the festive atmosphere. The parade will also showcase Senoia's new angel decorations that will be illuminated during the holiday season. Tours of seven historic homes in Senoia decked out for the holidays, along with refreshments and a live guitar concert, will be available Dec. 8 when the Historic Senoia Tour of Homes is unveiled from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Sites on the tour include: The home of Annie Doris and Lester Mann, 258 Pylant Street. Built in 1905 as a wedding gift, it is Neo-Classical in style with large Doric columns. The home of Ann and Jack Merrick, 163 Seavy Street. This two-story Victorian Gothic cottage, adorned with three gables, was built in 1873. The home of Tom McKeehan, 371 Pylant Street. This Neo-Classical columned home was built in 1906. It has a central pedimented portico and Doric columns. The Culpepper House Bed and Breakfast, 35 Broad Street, home of Suzanne and Sam Helfman. Originally built in 1871, it was modified to the Steamboat Gothic style around the turn of the century. The home of Dominique and Glenda Penot, 207 Bridge Street. This one-story cottage was built in 1904. Renovations begun in 1998 are almost complete. The home of Don and Gail Downs, 159 Main Street. Built in 1834 in the Federal style, the old Starr's Mill home place was attached in the 1880s, then changed again to a classic Victorian style in the 1890s. The Headquarters House of the Senoia Area Historical Society. Renovated extensively in the past 10 years, it will be the site of the holiday reception. Admission is $15 in advance, $17.50 at the door. This includes refreshments and entertainment.
