PTC planning commission OK with road connecting new subdivision to Tyrone

The Peachtree City Planning Commission has decided not to oppose connecting a road in a new subdivision to a similar subdivision in Tyrone.

The commission met with its counterparts in Tyrone last week to discuss the matter and learned that the Tyrone planning commission has already signed off on the plan, which won't need approval from the Tyrone Town Council.

The Peachtree City Council must approve the road connection, however, for it to become a reality. Both subdivisions are being developed by the same developer, Jimmy Halligan of Hyland Developers. Halligan requested approval for the connection several months ago.

The subdivisions, which are under construction, are located north of Crabapple Lane. The Peachtree City subdivision is being called Maple Shade.

The Fayette County Board of Education is building a new elementary school on Crabapple Lane near Ga. Highway 74 North.

Peachtree City commissioners reasoned that the road connection would be helpful to Tyrone residents who will have children going to the new school.

Although commissioner Bob Buckley expressed some reservations about the road connection, he agreed "this is the right thing to do."
