Hartsfield ready for high holiday traffic

Officials at Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport expect passenger volume to exceed 1.2 million this Thanksgiving holiday season, beginning Tuesday and ending December 2.

Traditionally, the holiday has been the heaviest recorded travel period for the world's busiest airport.

"Due to the high volume of passenger traffic, we strongly encourage travelers to arrive early and allow adequate time for airline check-in," said Aviation General Manager Ben DeCosta.

"We are partnering with the Transportation Security Administration's Prepare for Takeoff education campaign that features several tips designed to help you get processed through the security checkpoint efficiently," he added.

This year travel tips include everything from leaving gifts unwrapped, or shipping them, to removing your overcoat and laptop computer from its case prior to screening.

Hartsfield advises passengers to consult with their individual airline to determine how much extra time to arrive for both domestic and international holiday travel.

Passengers are reminded they are limited to one carry-on bag and one personal item, which may include a briefcase, purse, backpack, diaper bag, or laptop computer.
