Pedestrian injured while directing traffic A Newnan man suffered minor injuries when he was struck by a vehicle's side mirror while directing traffic on Redwine Road Thursday morning, according to police. Thomas W. Smrcina, 48, had directed the vehicle to stop and was struck after he turned around, assuming the vehicle would stop, said Capt. Bryan Woodie of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department. Smrcina was attempting to stop traffic for a truck that was entering the road, Woodie said. The 1995 Chevy Lumina driven by Colon E. Cooper, 71, of Peachtree City, was traveling north on Redwine Road and apparently did not see Smrcina, Woodie said. No charges will be filed against Cooper, Woodie said. Smrcina was dressed in dark clothing, did not wear reflective gear and positioned in a shadowed area when he was struck, Woodie added. John Munford
