Annexations will hinge on water and sewer capacity

Future annexations in Senoia will depend on the city's water and sewer capacity.

That's the message the Senoia City Council delivered Monday night to Donovan Gossett, who wants to annex 15 acres on Rockaway Road into the city.

The council deferred making a decision on Gossett's request because an ordinance had not been prepared for the annexation. The matter will now be voted on Dec. 9, but the council had serious reservations about any more annexations until water and sewer issues are addressed.

Gossett told the council he wants to be annexed into the city because he can develop at a higher density in the city than Coweta County.

County regulations call for 1.6-acre lots, while the city allows half-acre lots, as long as there is sewerage capacity.

Gossett said much of the surrounding area was already in the city and that he had agreed to preserve 25 percent of the development as open space.

He also said he would pay for the costs of running water to the development and would install deceleration lanes on Rockaway Road.

Mayor Dianne Cleveland appreciated Gossett's overtures, but said his annexation was one of many that could put extra pressure on the city's infrastructure.

"We have your 15 acres, and then somebody else could want to annex 20 acres. It all adds up," she said.
