A day on the links

Participants in the recent Fayette County Women's Council of Realtors' Golf Tournament got a solid indication of the improvements nearing completion at Arbor Springs Golf and Country Club, located in Arbor Springs Plantation near Newnan.

The tournament, held Sept. 24, attracted a field of 80 golfers and served as as a fundraiser for the Women's Council of Realtors, with proceeds going to the All Children's Play Park in Fayette County.

Arbor Springs Golf and Country Club hosted the event, and Arbor Springs Realty, Ltd. was among the corporate supporters, sponsoring hole No. 1 on the course.

"We wanted to show our support for the Women's Council of Realtors," said Ginger Uhl, Assistant Broker/Director of Sales for Arbor Springs Realty. "A lot of these agents show and sell our homes, which helps our builders."

"Chicken Man" Mike Culver was on hand to provide entertainment as prizes were awarded following tournament play.

Tom McCoy, general manager of Arbor Springs Golf and Country Club, said improvements underway on the original 18 holes of the championship course include widening the fairways, which makes the layout more "player-friendly." The upgrades, which will be completed by this winter, also will result in improving the condition of the course with better weed control, proper watering and proper fertilization. An all-grass practice facility and a 10,000 sq. ft. putting green recently opened at the upscale daily fee golf course. A picturesque waterfall feature has just been installed, the cart barn is nearly completed, and the 13,000 sq. ft. clubhouse, with a pro shop, restaurant and banquet facilities, will open next spring. Expansion of the course to 27 holes is planned for the future.

McCoy said the Women's Council of Realtors' event was one of the large number of tournaments held at the Arbor Springs course. "We are always open and available for corporate and charity events, and we have a professional staff which has customer service as a No. 1 goal," he noted.

Cindy Lester, vice president of commercial services/Southern Crescent for Prudential Georgia Realty, who is also president-elect of the Georgia Association of Realtors, was among the day's participants, and she commented that the course has "great potential." She added that she would been interested in seeing the results after the current work is finished.

The golf course is the centerpiece of the 1,500-acre Arbor Springs Plantation planned community, located northeast of Newnan off Ga. Highway 29. Convenient to Exit 51 of I-85, the community is situated in heavily wooded, rolling countryside and will eventually contain approximately 600 homes on one to three-acre estate-sized lots. All homes are custom built, and the builder team is composed of Gyorgy Homes, Southwind Homes, Edwards Quality Homes, McKinney Builders, Richard Simms Homes, and Lichty Brothers Construction. At the current time, the community has approximately 130 homes.

Arbor Springs Plantation, which is being developed by Landward III, is a planned community providing an exceptional opportunity to live, work and play. The executive homes have been designed with the latest features for today's lifestyles and contain home offices (per plan) with structured wiring for high speed internet access; SUV-friendly, three and four-bay garages; large gourmet kitchens with granite countertops; and sodded lawns with sprinkler systems. HOA community intranet facilities are in place, as are restrictive covenants and architectural controls.

Residents are able to enjoy nature trails, lakes, ponds and woodland streams, a lakeside swimming pool, lighted tennis courts, a children's play park, and sidewalks. The new Arbor Springs Elementary School is located on the property, and the community is also served by Northgate High School, currently ranked No. 12 in Georgia, and Madras Middle School.
