PruGeorgia helping military during holidays

An Atlanta-based company, Prudential Atlanta/Georgia Realty, is doing its part to assist military personnel stationed overseas this holiday season. The company is adopting a Navy squadron for the upcoming holiday season and is encouraging other local businesses and organizations to do the same.

The adopted VAQ 130 tactical electronic warfare squadron known simply as The Zappers, is comprised of approximately 150 enlisted sailors and 30 commissioned officers. The squadron is responsible for flying EA-6B Prowler aircraft off the flight deck of the USS Harry S. Truman. At present, this group is training to prepare for its upcoming six month deployment to defend our country, which will take them away from family and friends during the holiday season. The carrier will be stationed somewhere in the Mediterranean or Arabian Gulf area.

To help pass the time and cheer them on during the holiday season, Prudential Atlanta/Georgia Realty is collecting items such as movies, CDs, books, magazines, disposable cameras, postage stamps, portable games, and nonperishable treats such as beef jerky and microwave popcorn. The cap amount is $20 per person in a squadron, as per the Navy's standard of conduct limiting gift amounts.

"Becoming a holiday supporter of this squadron was, we felt, something we just had to do as a company," explained president and CEO Dan Forsman. "These brave men and women are risking their lives so we may live in freedom here. It's one of the many ways our Prudential family demonstrates their 'We Care' spirit, a motto of our company."

The squadron being adopted by Prudential Atlanta/Georgia Realty is just one of the many currently deployed overseas. The USS Truman, alone, has some 5,000 Navy personnel on board and is one of a fleet of ships that will soon deploy overseas.

Forsman continued, "It would be great to see every Navy squadron and every unit of the other military branches have a holiday supporter back in the U.S."

For those individuals or organizations that do not wish to formally adopt a squadron or military unit, donations can be dropped off at one of two Prudential Atlanta/Georgia Realty locations, including the corporate office at 863 Holcomb Bridge Road in Roswell and the Sandy Springs office at 5335 Roswell Road in Atlanta.
