Rezoning for subdivision on Hwy. 74 south goes back to commission By JOHN MUNFORD A rezoning proposal for a 125-home subdivision off Ga. Highway 74 South in Peachtree City near Rockaway Road will be considered a second time at the Planning Commission's meeting Monday night. The commission has already voted to recommend approval of the rezoning to the City Council. But a technicality is forcing the matter back to the commission before council can take action. The city failed to post a sign on the property to notify the public of the date the public hearing, according to City Planner David Rast. The rezoning request includes two commercial outparcels and realignment of Rockaway Road so it would intersect with the current traffic light for Holly Grove Road. Currently the property is zoned general industrial, but it is separated from the city's industrial park by a creek. The city is also seeking more detailed numbers from the school system on the possible impact the rezoning might have on schools in the area. Although there were indications originally that most of the homes in the subdivision would be marketed to empty nesters, Bob Adams Homes has indicated that may not be the case. That means there could be more of an impact on the school system than was originally contemplated when the original rezoning application was approved by the Planning Commission. Peachtree City Mayor Steve Brown has cited a need to consider the impact on schools when the City Council determines whether or not to rezone non-residential property to a residential use.
