Hartsfield sponsors Supplier Diversity Conference

Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport is sponsoring the Greater Atlanta Economic Alliance's first annual Supplier Diversity Conference Nov. 7-9 at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta.

Ben DeCosta, aviation general manager at Hartsfield, will be on hand to represent the airport at this inaugural event. He and Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin will be providing the opening remarks and discussing Hartsfield's commitment to supplier diversity in all of its projects, most notably the $5.4 billion Hartsfield Development Program.

"Supporting endeavors to increase supplier diversity is a high priority for Hartsfield," said DeCosta. "Through the efforts of the Alliance, disadvantaged business owners are being given the information, education and training necessary for them to become viable candidates in the contract bidding process. This conference will help to create significant opportunities for several Metro Atlanta businesses to compete for work."

Companies and individuals looking to do business with Hartsfield are encouraged to attend the three-day conference. The sessions will include presentations detailing procurement opportunities with the Hartsfield Development Program, MARTA, City of Atlanta, and other large public works projects throughout metropolitan Atlanta.

The conference also features a day of workshops presented by the Construction Business Management Institute. Topics include: Access to Capital; Bonding and Insurance; Turning Contacts into Contracts, and a Small Business Workshop presented by the Internal Revenue Service. There will also be a hands-on workshop that will teach individuals the correct way to prepare a bid from beginning to end, with guidance from industry professionals.

The conference wraps up with a Supplier Diversity Awards Reception, honoring companies, organizations and individuals who have made great strides in supplier diversity.
