Childs named top YMCA volunteer

The Fayette Family YMCA has named Dr. Ernie Childs its 2002 Volunteer of the Year. This annual award is given to a member from each metro Atlanta YMCA branch who, through outstanding work and dedication, helps the YMCA build strong kids, strong families, and strong communities.

Childs, along with this year's other volunteer award recipients, will be honored at the annual volunteer recognition dinner Nov. 14 at the Westin Peachtree Plaza.

When contacted about the water contamination of Lake Edith, Childs used his resources to provide a solution to make the lake safe again. He continues to monitor the lake and provides the product needed to maintain the water quality and ensure the safety of summer camp participants and staff. Childs also makes an impact in the community through the Kiwanis Club of Peachtree City and the Job Seekers.

Childs is the president and CEO of Archaea Solutions, Inc. He and his family reside in Tyrone.

The Metro Atlanta YMCA is an association of volunteers, members and staff, open to and serving all, providing programs and services which develop spirit, mind and body. Assistance is available based on need. The YMCA actively seeks to involve those in need.
