Samaritans unveil top 10

Each month the Fayette Samaritans share their 10 most wanted items needed for that month. For the month of November, these are the items most needed to stock the charity's shelves: Clothes detergent, canned carrots, spaghetti or pasta, bathroom tissue, instant potatoes, canned meat such as Spaghetti-O's, canned fruit, canned soup, pasta sauce, and canned chili.

The 11-year-old organization is supported by more than 40 area churches as well as citizens of Fayette County. It screens applicants for free food, clothing or funds to pay utility bills. The organization is all-volunteer and 100 percent of any income goes directly to those in need.

It is in its second "borrowed" location and is in need of a building of its own. A building campaign was begun several months ago and currently has nearly $20,000 towards that goal. Estimates are that the charity will need upwards of $400,000 to buy the land and to construct the needed facility.

Its current location is 213 North Jeff Davis Place, Fayetteville, Suite 102, and is open from 9 a.m. to noon. The IHOP is just across the street. They would be most happy to receive your donations, whether canned goods or monetary donations. The group is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Call them at 770-719-2707 weekday mornings.
