Field for PTC attorney, solicitor job is crowded By JOHN
MUNFORD Peachtree City has received proposals from 11 different firms and individuals interested in serving as the city's appointed attorney and/or municipal court solicitor. Another 27 people have applied for the position of in-house attorney, said city spokesperson Betsy Tyler. The City Council must decide which system to use, and the matter is tentatively on the agenda for Thursday's council meeting, Tyler added. Long-time city attorney and solicitor Rick Lindsey recently chose to resign from both positions, but he continues to serve while council considers its options to replace him. Of the 11 different applications for the appointed positions of attorney and solicitor, only two of the applicants are based locally: David Jean Couch of Peachtree City, who is seeking both positions, and Warren A. Sellers of Fayetteville, who is only interested in serving as solicitor. Only one other candidate applied solely for the solicitor's position: A.J. Welch Jr. of Stockbridge. Five attorneys applied for the city attorney position, including Jack Hancock of Forest Park, Caryl Sumner Black of Atlanta, Theodore P. Meeker III of Newnan, Lance McMillian of Newnan and William Davis Hewitt of Atlanta. Four applications were received for both positions including Couch, Steven M. Fincher of Jonesboro, Gary A. Bacon of Statesboro and a joint application from G. Robert Oliver and David P. Winkle of Oliver and Winkle in Jonesboro. The city declined to release the list of persons who have applied to the in-house counsel position should council decide to go in that direction.
