Fayette County Commission Chairman Greg Dunn walked away from last week's Atlanta Regional Commission meeting with a smile on his face.

Dunn voted for the planning agency's Transportation Improvement Program for the next two years, which will funnel more than $15 million to the county for road and transportation projects.

"I could finally vote to support the transportation projects," Dunn said at last Thursday's County Commission meeting.

The biggest Fayette projects in the ARC plan include the widening of Ga. Highway 54 to the Coweta County line, which should greatly improve traffic in that area, Dunn said.

Another project is the widening of Ga. Highway 74 south. The county will get $5 million for the project, which will aid in acquiring right-of-way.

Other projects include:

A new bridge at Morning Creek at Ga. Highway 85.

Bicycle paths along Redwine Road.

Improvements at the intersection of Huddleston Drive and Dividend Drive.

"Last year, we had $56,000 in the TIP, so this is a big improvement," Dunn said.
