Square Foot Ministry dedicates house By CAROLYN
CARY
The Square Foot Ministry is a group of churches of all denominations and ethnic backgrounds who believe that 99 percent of what is done for God is done by doing for and toward others. A group of young men representing the organization knocked on the door of a native Fayette Countian, Claudette Ringer Starr of Fayetteville, three months ago. The Church Street resident was asked if they could tear down her 60 year-old home, and promised her she would have a brand new home in three months. "I knew it was a blessing from the Lord," she said, "and I agreed without hesitation." The house at 125 Church Street had originally belong to her grandmother, Ozzie Lee Arnold. True to their word, this past Sunday was the dedication of the 1,564 sq. ft. house, complete with appliances and landscaping. The project encompassed a total of over 350 workers from the various churches as well as professionals who donated their services. At least 15 vendors donated supplies worth over $40,000. The dedication service was handled by the Rev. Scott Hagen and the Rev. Maria Wells of Fayetteville First United Methodist Church; the Rev. Allan Todd, Providence United Methodist; Doug Higgins and Doug Clark, Fayetteville First United Methodist Church, who oversaw the project; and the Rev. Eddie Thomas, Edgefield Baptist Church. The organization has a list of ongoing projects in Fayette County, as they believe charity begins at home. Visit its Web site at www.squarefootministry.com.
