Planning Commission to reconsider rezoning for 125-home subdivision

A rezoning proposal for a 125-home subdivision off Ga. Highway 74 South in Peachtree City near Rockaway Road is headed back to the Planning Commission.

The commission has already voted to recommend approval of the rezoning to the city council. But a technicality is forcing the matter back to the commission before council can take action.

The city failed to post a sign on the property to notify the public of the date the public hearing, according to City Planner David Rast.

The City Council is also waiting for clarification on statistics provided by the Fayette County Board of Education on the possible impact of the rezoning on the school system.

The rezoning request includes two commercial outparcels and realignment of Rockaway Road so it would intersect with the current traffic light for Holly Grove Road.

A separate rezoning request is also headed back to the commission since a public hearing for the request was not properly advertised.

The applicant, who wants to build two retail stores on the two-plus acre site off Ga. Highway 74 north near Wisdom Road, is seeking a rezoning from a residential use to a limited use commercial zoning. One of the stores would house a carpet store and showroom.
