Deal done: Falcon Field acquires 23-plus acres to expand with future hangar sites

Peachtree City's Falcon Field has over 23 more acres to grow on now that it has closed on a $1.075 million deal to acquire the property from Peachtree City Holdings Inc., a subsidiary of Pathway Communities.

The land, located at the southeast boundary of the airport, will eventually be used for more hangar space. The property was purchased with a grant from the Federal Aviation Administration's Airport Improvement Program, which is funded by airport user fees, said authority chairwoman Cathy Nelmes.

The authority also negotiated a two-year option to purchase property Peachtree City Holdings owns at the southwest border of the airport at $25,000 per acre.

Nelmes said the land purchase will allow Falcon Field to grow and meet the needs of the local aviation community and help boost the authority's revenue.

The authority wants to attract businesses to the airport to help support aircraft with services for maintenance, avionics, interiors and painting.

"There are basic needs of the aircraft owner and we don't have all of them," Nelmes said.

The authority will hold a series of workshops to develop a master plan for the new site, Nelmes said. The authority will need to add infrastructure such as taxiways, hangar sites, access roads, and parking lots for automobiles and aircraft.

"We want to put a lot of thought into how that's developed," Nelmes said.

Creating the plan will involve guessing what the airport's future needs will be and making sure the plan is flexible so it can change as the airport's needs change, she added.
