Newnan Classical staging recital

The public is invited to attend Reformation Day at Newnan Classical School Oct. 31.

The Recitato Performance at the school runs from 11 a.m.-noon, with a question-and-answer session following the event.

"He who walks with the wise becomes wise," says the writer of Proverbs; herein is the philosophy of classical education.

Since its conception four years ago, a diverse group of families has undertaken the mission of offering Coweta County a nurturing but academically strong alternative within the private school sector.

Numbering about 40 students, Newnan Classical School has undertaken the project of teaching to the individual child's learning styles by incremental and multi-sensory means, while structuring a curriculum around the humanities, the arts, and the sciences.

As any of our parents, teachers or students will tell you, learning at Newnan Classical School is a walk with the wise.

Shannon Roquemore, who teaches sixth- and seventh-grade language arts and history at Newnan Classical, states, "Those things which have crossed the decades and centuries are alive for these students in the shape of a curriculum which emphasizes writing, logic, math, the great books of the ages and the very methods for imparting wisdom that have been used since classical times thus, classical education."

Miss Roquemore also serves as the music teacher at Newnan Classical School and will be preparing the children for the program.

When asked why they are celebrating Reformation Day, she stated, "As a Christian school, Newnan Classical School is celebrating the nailing of Martin Luther's 95 Theses to the door of Wittenburg Cathedral for the deepening of understanding it brought to Christian thinkers; however, his action, based on a life of learning, seeking, and service, is to classical education a moment of inspiration for not only what to think but how to think and take action."

Newnan Classical School is planning a worthy celebration of such a man.

The public is invited to Newnan Classical School's Reformation Day Recitato, where an array of music, poetry recitations, and art work will be presented for parents, friends, and prospective families. Those who wish to learn more about a small, nurturing, academically strong Christian school are invited to the program, as well as the question and answer forum afterwards which will be facilitated by school principal Angie Gruner.

The school is currently kindergarten through seventh grade and plans to add one grade per year through high school.

Newnan Classical School is located at the intersection of Ga. highways 34 and 54.
