Northgate wins title

The Northgate Marching Viking Band was crowned gold division grand champions this past Saturday at the Southern Invitational Marching Festival. The competition was held at Cobb County's Sprayberry High School.

The victory is the third grand championship title in the school's short five year competitive history. Their first title was in 1998 at the Mud Creek Marching Festival in Hanceville, Ala. Last year, the band took top honors at the Golden River Marching Festival in Tallapoosa.

Under the direction of director Alan Armstrong, the Marching Vikings also received gold division first place honors in the auxiliary, drum major, music, and marching categories.

Recently, the band received superior ratings for their performance at the Brookwood Bronco Classic Oct 5. The Band will next compete in the National Bands of America Competition Nov. 2 in the Georgia Dome.
